Synergy Live 2013 Competition!

synergyIt’s finally here! The legendary Synergy Live has returned to Cape Town and Johannesburg this weekend, and i hope you’re ready! I was ridiculously bummed that i couldn’t make last year’s festival (i had friends arriving from the UK the same night Prodigy was performing!)… so i’m really glad that things sort of worked out this time around.

JOBURG [Competition]

There’s no need to feel left out of the festival scene, you might not be camping, but you’re certainly going to get to party just as hard as the Townies! The line-up is ridiculous:

Everything Everything (UK)
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (US)
Desmond & the Tutus
Gangs of Ballet
Gangsterdam
Goodnight Wembley
Iso
Naming James
Zebra & Giraffe

That’s not even including the Red Bull Stage with Foreign Beggars, Feed Me, Das Kapital and more!

COMPETITION (JHB ONLY)

To win 1 of 3 sets of double tickets, all you have to do is make sure you’re following @SynergyLive, and tweet the following:

WIN tickets to @SynergyLive in JHB this weekend with @StephanieBe! Details here: http://bit.ly/1eCoNRx

CAPE TOWN

Synergy Live 2013 is a only about 90 minutes outside of Cape Town on the banks of Theewaterskloof Dam. Three days of dirty fun with top talent serving up some pretty rad beats. Dance with the setting sun, sleep with the stars – wake up and start all over again. Heaven.

1461855_624161360976229_467849072_nA couple of essential items to pack:

–           TICKETS!
–           Water Bottle (maybe 1 for water and 1 for alcohol…. But definitely take extra, you  will probably lose them. Daisies will have water filling stations throughout the site too, to keep you hydrated)
–           Sunglasses (you will also probably lose a pair of these, or break them. Leave your designer shades at home and rather bring 2 pairs of cheapies)
–           Torch
–           Lighter, matches (even if you don’t smoke, people are always looking for lighters)
–           Rennies/Myprodol/Plasters/Immodium/Panado! (at the risk of sounding like your mom, I can’t emphasize how important it is to take ALL of the aforementioned goodies. You really don’t want to feel ill at an outdoor festival. You ruin it for yourself and for your friends.) Rennies: For if the festival food doesn’t agree with you, or even if you’re feeling sick from too much beer/spirits, it basically just makes your stomach acid less acidic. This is a pretty gross tip, so stop reading if you’re sensitive. If you feel like you’re going to throw up, try and get 3 or so Rennies into you a good amount of time before you chunder, and when you do, it’ll feel like you’re throwing up water rather than Satan’s own burning lava.

–      Packets of chips (possibly the easiest and lightest food to carry around, it’s also the best thing to eat if you’re feeling sick)
–      Alcohol Sachets (easy to hide in your tent from scavengers, rolled up in some socks)
–      Decant All Alcohol! (no glass is aloud into Synergy at all, and I’m glad about that. So don’t complain, just sort yourself out before you come)

… except Australia. I don’t think he’s going there! WIN! Have we replaced Aus as the furtherest South that performers are willing to go now? Mwahahahahaha!

happy.me

There’s a new kid on the block, and you’re going to want to be friends with him. Trust me.

1381173_205021099677189_1275088989_nhappy.me is a South African Bubble Tea shop that has opened in Greenside, JHB. The owners spent 3yrs developing the brand and traveling from South America to Asia to discover different teas and find out how Bubble Tea started. I had my first encounter in Cape Town, but it’s nothing like what these guys have got going on. I liked Bubble Tea when i first tried it, but after my trip to happy.me, i now LOVE it!

Besides Bubble Tea, they do excellent coffees and ridiculously tasty smoothies too! The guys have also got free wifi on the way, and there are even plugs for your laptop. The Bubble Tea choices also range from super healthy… to super decadent, it’s all up to you! Their opening times are also super convenient: 7am – 7pm, which makes it the perfect spot to stop on the way to work, over lunch or after work 🙂

1377088_205021546343811_1185555630_nI’ve been given the store to run for one day next week with Miss Leigh Crymble as my partner, we’re taking on 4 other teams in a race to see who can promote/run the shop the best! So… if you’re in the area next Tuesday (29 Oct, 12 – 6pm) PLEASE pop by and support! We’ve got some pretty cool things planned for the day 😉 AND we’ll give you an opportunity to tweet for a discount on the day! Join us in store to get involved.

If you can’t be there, and want to show your support, please tweet the HECK out of our hashtags! We’re being judged on social media reach, etc… so if you could add #HappyMetre and #TeamSL to a couple of tweets, that’d be swell 😉

Kimberley Diamond Cup

I’m not sure why there isn’t a bigger deal made of this… we should all be jumping in cars and going on a roadtrip to Kimberley this weekend! The Kimberley Diamond Cup has been referened in media as the “Grand Prix” of the skating world… over R5MILLION worth of prize money will be doled out over the next few days. It might be a little late to make a mission to the K-Hole, but the event will be webcast LIVE on their official site:  www.kimberleydiamondcup.com on Saturday, Sept. 28 and Sunday, Sept. 29! Supersport are also going to be broadcasting some of the bigger events over the weekend.

05KDCEventAnnouncementIt is just INSANE that this is the largest single event prize purse in skateboarding! The winner of the Street Championships will receive a $100,000 cash prize. The winner of the Vert and Big AirChampionships will receive a $60,000 cash prize. I don’t have to do the conversions for you to understand how much money that is.
